JANNA GARZA
Janna Garza is a writer, performer, photographer, and multi-media artist living in Austin, Texas. Her book "Janna Garza Looks Familiar", originally released in 2021, will launch its second edition in December 2024. She has created over fifty character sketches through self-portrait and narrative prose, bringing each to life on the page and sometimes in live performance. Her characters represent the beauty and often the pathos of everyday American archetypes.
In addition to her self-portrait series, Janna creates mixed media collages, found object mosaics, and textile works. A perpetually curious and aspiring polymath, Janna explores themes of history, religion, philosophy, and social commentary, often mixing “low and high brow” forms with humor and irony.
She has exhibited her work at multiple galleries in Austin, including the Tin Whistle Gallery at Bolm Studios and Flatbed Press, and can usually be seen in the Austin Studio Tour. She is also a regular performer in "Dick Monologues" at Hyde Park Theater in Austin.
Her home studio "Garza Studio and Gardens" has garnered attention for its nod to the colorful Jardin Majorelle in Morocco and Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul. She maintains an English Garden with over fifty rose bushes and a brightly colored cacti and succulent garden that surrounds her studio. Invites to her Salon Series and Studio Visits are highly coveted.
